What do children learn at N?
Our goal is to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. Each child’s needs and interests are different, so we’ve developed a progressive curriculum that is equally unique and bespoke to each child. Designed to prepare children for life in the modern world, our N curriculum identifies four key focus areas:
Our teaching methods
We want to ignite a lifelong love of learning in every child at N and we do this through a gentle balance of free play and structured learning experiences.
Purposeful playChildren are free to explore the many resources within the room and outdoors in the garden.
Educator-inspired learningOur experienced educators initiate conversation and thought to inspire children with new knowledge and ideas.
Group sessionsLearning with and from peers, with a focus on communication and emotional literacy.
The N experience
We believe that children learn most from experiences in which they are directly involved. Our curriculum is delivered through a variety of core experiences, daily discovery and weekly N extras.
Core experiencesOur core daily sessions at N are singing, signing, stories, mindfulness and emotional literacy. These form the grounding to reading, writing and continued development.
Daily discoveryWe use this time to introduce our children to life skills and creative thought, learning about everything from expressive arts, science, engineering, maths, technology, cultural diversity, environmentalism and physical health.
The N extrasWeekly N extras explored in small groups include: cooking & baking, Spanish, yoga, Doodle Dance/phonics and The N passport.
The N passport
A series of essential cultural experiences that we expect each child to have had by the time they leave us for school. These include going to the theatre, visiting art galleries and taking part in a children’s council.
Yoga at N blends the development of physical skills with mindfulness techniques to support children to develop their self-regulation, calmness and holistic health.
Cookery & baking
The cookery curriculum progressively builds an understanding of ingredients, tastes, textures, mathematical concepts, health choices, tools, processes and patience.
Doodle Dance & phonics
A bespoke programme that leads our children through physical expressions focused on preparing and developing the skills they need for reading and writing.
Our Spanish programme is an introduction to foreign languages and is supported through immersive singing, storytelling and signing.
