Elmer, by David Mckee

What you need

Your listening ears.

Benefits

  • Understanding that everyone is unique and that it is ok to be different.
  • Early math skills (shapes, patterns, counting)
  • Learning the colours

The experience

Elmer has been a nursery favourite since this first book was published in 1989.

Elmer is different. Elmer is patchwork. The grey elephants all love him, but he soon starts to wonder what it would be like to be just the same as them.

After listening to the story, are you ready for some counting? Why not play the video again and pause it as and when needed to do the counting?

Can you count the berries on the bush? Can you count the coloured patches on Elmer? Can you count how many elephants are in the herd? Can you count how many other animals are in the jungle?

Well done! Great counting!
