Rainbow salt drawing

A child playing with pink salt
A child playing with pink salt

What you need

  • Coloured paper
  • A tray
  • Salt
  • Mark-making tools e.g. pencils, sticks, etc.

Benefits

This will develop your child’s fine motor skills and encourage them to use the tripod grip. This is a fun activity to make any marks your child wants.

The experience

Grab a tray and fill it with some salt. To make the activity more exciting you could put a picture of something they like in the tray or coloured paper so when your child draws they can see what’s underneath. You could draw something simple using your finger first; for example, a smiley face. Ask your child to try to draw it too.

You can let your child explore different mark-making tools such as a feather, sticks, toy cars, forks and many more objects in your house!
