This wonderful book supports children’s understanding about feelings, associating them with colours they might know. It supports emotional development through expressing emotions and feelings and helps children understand what it is they feel, and possibly why.
Anna Llenas’s The Color Monster: A Pop-up Book of Feelings is an adorable book. One day, Colour Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through colour.
After listening to this story you can practice drawing faces that show different emotions. Can you draw a happy face? Can you draw an angry face? Use a mirror to see how your facial expression can change to show emotions.
How many different colours can you think? Can you mix some colours? What new colours can you make? Try using paint to mix different shades of the same colour to see what happens.
Have fun exploring!
