Place a few animal toys in one bowl and pour a few drops of oil and spread it over the animals. Fill the other container with warm water and add a few drops of washing up liquid. Encourage your child to stir the water to make bubbles and start washing up one animal at the time.
You can talk about the different textures (oily, slippery, warm, wet, dry) and show your child how to clean the animals so he/she can imitate your actions and sounds.
You can talk about different body parts of the animals and when you think they’re clean, you can pat dry them with a small towel.
Talk about how the animals feel now, stroke them and ask your child to help you put the animals back in their home basket.
