Read moreThe ‘apples and bananas’ song is such fun for learning and practicing letter sounds of vowels. The song starts with ‘I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas’ – as you go through the song, the first vowel sound transitions into a different vowel sound, until you’re singing about ‘oo-ples’ and ‘boo-noo-noos’. It’s also quite silly so gets extra points for the laughter factor!
Listen to the apples and bananas song with your child and have a go at singing along together.

Literacy exercise:
Make large letter signs e.g. an O written on an A4 page, and hold up during the song whilst singing ‘o-pples and bo-no-nos’. Continue this with all letters until your child can identify the letters independently.
Afterwards, encourage your child to have a go at drawing the letters.
Expressive arts and design exercise:
Make apples and banana props using found material e.g. old cereal boxes, colouring pencils. Use the props to make a puppet show and dance along to the song with. Get imaginative with it – start changing the words to other things e.g. ‘I like to eat, eat, eat cheese and spaghetti’ etc.
