Building balances

A child building blocks
A child building blocks

What you need

  • Cushions
  • A comfortable, open space
  • Blocks (optional)

Benefits

This activity helps to promote your child’s awareness of cause and effect when the structure is knocked down. This also helps with hand-eye coordination, turn taking and builds attention span.

The experience

Move to a nice clear and safe place in your home, and start to stack cushions or blocks, taking turns to build a balancing tower.  You can start by encouraging your child to help build the structure and have them knock it over a few times. You can also do a separate one and compare your structure to your child’s and knock the cushions or blocks over together!
