Make your own mini bowling alley

Bowling pins made out of bottles and a tennis ball
Bowling pins made out of bottles and a tennis ball

What you need

  • Small, light balls, or balled-up socks
  • 2+ small, empty plastic water bottles (or you could use other empties from your recycling box)

Benefits

This activity will help to develop your child’s gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and their understanding of cause and effect.

The experience

Create your own mini bowling alley! Set up your bottles (for older children, you might want to make it more challenging by filling with a little water).

Provide your child with a start line and the balls, and encourage them to roll them towards the bottles to knock them down. Even young babies can do this, sitting or lying on their tummies close to the bottles. For older children, you could keep score of how many they knock down each time.
