Mark making: Blocks and Sponges

What you need

  • Child-safe paint
  • Sponges or blocks (could be Lego bricks)
  • Paper

Mark-making gives children the opportunity to express themselves and explore new materials other than using pen and paper. When children are creating marks, it enhances their physical development by improving their fine motor skills.

The experience

Firstly, place your child safely onto a flat surface or highchair. Ensure that your child wears clothing that you don’t mind getting messy!

Pour some paint into a plastic container; prepare a piece of paper and a sponge or blocks in front of your child. Encourage your child to dip each object into the paint and watch them create an artistic piece.
