What you need
- A large bottle
- Water
- Oil
- Blue food colouring

The experience
Fill a bottle ⅓ of the way with water and add food colouring. Close the lid and shake the bottle up watching how the water and food colouring mix (make sure to point this out: “Wow! Look at how the water and colour mixed together!”).
Then, top the bottle up with oil (can be any oil in the house!) and watch how the water and oil do not mix, encourage your child to shake the bottle and watch the water and oil dance in the bottle and bubbles form – ask your child if they notice a difference between how the food colouring and water mixed and how the oil and water mixed and discuss.
