This activity will not only help you with your washing, but support and encourage your child to get their brain working on categorising patterns. It will support them to talk about the patterns and shapes they can see.
After your washing is done, lay the patterned/coloured socks out on the floor.
Talk about the patterns you can see (stripey, spotty, stars, zig zags) and encourage your child to try and match the socks to its partner.
Once the socks have successfully been matched up, you could explore patterns and look around your home to see what other patterns you can see, or even make your own.
