Through this activity, the children will be developing their physical skills while having fun practising moving in a range of ways such as walking, running, slithering, etc. It also improves their listening and attention skills while builds their confidence and understanding about the importance of road safety.
A true old classic. Explain to your child that you are going to pretend to be “the traffic light” and stand a good distance away, turning your back to them.
When you shout ‘Green Light’, the child/children can move forwards until they hear you shout ‘Red Light’ meaning they have to stop. You can decide if you want to do it running, jumping, skipping, crawling, slithering, riding a bike/scooter.
To make this learning experience more interesting, add different lights with different rules such as yellow light=slow down / blue light=speed up.
Extend the learning experience: discuss the importance of traffic light and how to stay safe when crossing the road.
