Dinosaur ice eggs

Dinosaur ice eggs

What you need

  • Latex water balloons
  • Access to a kitchen or outdoor tap
  • Small toy dinosaurs
  • Scissors
  • Table salt
  • Spray bottle

Benefits

This activity is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, to help develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It’s great for hot summer days and keeping children cool!

The experience

You will need to place a dinosaur inside each latex balloon, before filling the balloon with water from a kitchen or outdoor tap. Tie a knot in the filled balloon and place in the freezer until frozen. Take out of the freezer and cut each balloon to remove the frozen dinosaur egg. Place the ice eggs in a shallow tray of warm water and fill the spray bottle with water and a sprinkling of table salt to hasten the melting process.

Encourage your child to spray the ice eggs to release the dinosaurs. You can swap out dinosaurs for other small toys – safari or aquatic mammals make great alternatives!
